For May’s Third Wednesday, the team from the upcoming AIM conference is giving an overview of the talks and happenings in store for this year’s event, June 7-8 at the World Trade & Convention Centre in Halifax. AIM will also be bringing a special offer for Third Wednesday attendees, and the Foggy Goggle, an AIM sponsor and host of the Day 1 party with Propellor, will be putting out some snacks for 3W too!

In addition to AIM, we will also have David Thompson, Director of Operations from The Atlantic PATH. Mr. Thompson will speak briefly about the the Atlantic Partnership for Tomorrow’s Health (more details below).

The study will follow the health of 300,000 people in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada for 30 years.

April 18th 3W: Dal’s Women in Technology Society & ICTC from Ottawa

For April’s Third Wednesday, Dalhousie University Women in Technology Society will be speaking about their organization and activities, what it is like being a female student in computer science and the challenges that may or may not come with that, and reaching out to other females and males who want to promote women especially in this field and the importance of networking.

The Women in Technology Society exists to support, promote, and celebrate female students pursuing or considering a degree within Dalhousie’s Technology related programs; to participate in existing programs such as open houses, CS Day, Supernova; and to introduce technology related programs to eligible females.

In addition to the Women in Technology Society we will also have a representative from the Information and Communications Technology Council speak briefly about the ICTS’s Digital Media project:

HR Capacity for Digital Media is an exciting initiative designed to help position Canada as a global leader in the digital economy by supporting industry’s efforts to develop a highly skilled and competitive Digital Media (DM) workforce, towards achieving greater success and productivity in the digital economy. The project aims at equipping DM employers, employees and educators with high value HR resources to inform decision-making, chart clear career paths, develop targeted education and training programs, and ensure Canada’s success in this pivotal industry.

March 21st 3W: Brooklyn Warehouse Crowdfunding

We’re very pleased to announce George Christakos, Owner/Operator of The Brooklyn Warehouse as our March Third Wednesday speaker.

Brooklyn Warehouse is the first restaurant in Atlantic Canada to use the internet descendant ‘crowd-funding’ to assist in the expansion currently going down at the Halifax North End hotspot. Owner/Operator George Christakos will talk about what inspired the unorthodox decision, the process of unleashing it via social media, and why it may be the right move for your next project.

September 21st 3W: Nocturne, Twitter Art & more

It’s late September and the Nocturne: Art at Night event is just around the corner, so we’re very pleased to have artist Stewart Legere and Argyle Fine Art gallery owner Adriana Afford speaking at September’s Third Wednesday, along with an introduction by Nocturne Chair, Rose Zack.

Stewart will be talking about his art installation which involves transforming the random thoughts of strangers sent via Twitter into tiny works of art. Adriana will be talking about what an event like Nocturne means to local galleries and the arts community.

We’ll also have a brief announcement from Shelley Hessian of Innovacorp about the I-3 Technology Start-Up Competition.
